Cellulite
Cellulite describes a condition that occurs in men and women (although much more common in women) where the skin of the lower limbs, >abdomen, and pelvic region becomes dimpled after puberty.
One plausible explanation - which also explains why very few men suffer from cellulite - is based on the composition and behavior of women's fat cells and the connective tissue that holds them in place. Very simply, a woman's connective tissue is very inflexible, so as females gain weight their fat cells expand, and tend to bulge upwards towards the surface of the skin, giving the classic orange-peel appearance of cellulite. In men, not only is there generally less fat on the thighs, but also the outer skin is thicker and thus obscures what is happening to any surplus fat below.
The causes are poorly understood.
Several changes in metabolism and physiology may cause cellulite or contribute to cellulite.
Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite.
Several genetic factors have been shown to be necessary for cellulite to develop.
Diet has been shown to affect the development and amount of cellulite. Excessive amounts of fat, carbohydrates, salt, or too little fiber can all contribute to increased cellulite.
Smoking, lack of exercise, fatty/starchy foods, and sitting or standing in a single position for long periods have all been correlated with an increase in cellulite.
A high stress lifestyle will cause an increase in the catecholamine hormones.
Caring for cellulite
To reduce cellulite, you have to lose fat under the skin. Diet and exercise programs are of the upmost importance and may help you reduce fat, but to get rid of cellulite, you have to follow cellulite solutions.
To accelerate the cellulite removal process, massaging the troubled areas regularly is a priceless counterpart.
Wearing thongs, boyshorts, or sleeping naked can reduce the impact underwear plays on cellulite's development.
Dietary changes for cellulite
Dieting does not get rid of the dimpled appearance, but a balanced diet and exercise may help to reduce the fat content within the distorted cells, reducing their contribution to the dimpling.
Organic fruits and vegetables are excellent foods for cleansing your body and helping eliminate stored toxins. Fresh fruits and vegetables contain multiple compounds like fiber, phytochemicals and minerals that help rid the body of pollutants. Fruits and vegetables also contain antioxidants that help reduce the damage inflicted on our bodies by free radicals (like those in smoke and alcohol).
Some of the most beneficial and nutrient packed fruits and vegetables are Blueberries and blackberries, Cherries, Mangos, Oranges, Strawberries and raspberries, Cranberries, Grapefruit,
Apples, Spinach, Tomatoes, Fennel, Bell peppers, Carrots
A diet high in essential fatty acids and antioxidant minerals will help regulate our body's fat metabolism. Oily fishes, nuts and seeds are good selections in this category. Drinking lots of water will also help flush the body and remove toxins more rapidly than dieting alone.
Some foods may make cellulite appear worse. None of us want that, so it is best you limit your intake of these foods or avoid them all together. The worst offenders include alcohol (which dehydrates your body), refined foods (including foods high in artificial additives and sweeteners), soda, and eating a diet overly high in animal protein.
